La Sagrada Familia Cathedral by Gaudí

Antoni Gaudi’s striking Roman Catholic Church, the Sagrada Familia (the complete Catalan name is Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família ) is one of Barcelona ’s most famous tourist attractions. Building work started on the church in 1882, was continued by Domenech Sugranyes until the Spanish Civil War in 1936 and still continues today. Gaudi designed this church as a religious offering and is reported to have joked that his client was not in a hurry! The work presently being carried out by architects Francesc Quintana, Isidre Puig Boada, Lluis Bonet i Gari and Francesc Cardoner is based on redrafts of the original plans that were lost.
