The beautiful Pavilion located in Barcelona, Spain (Montjuic area) was designed by the one of the great maestros of modern architecture - the German Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886 – 1969). It was designed as the German national pavilion for the World’s Fair (International Exhibition) celebrated in Barcelona in 1929.
The building is admired by architects, designers, engineers and tourist from all around the world. It is a simple and at the same time extravagant construction that was built using glass, travertine and different kinds of marble - green Alpine marble, ancient marble from Greece, Roman travertine and golden onyx from the Atlas Mountains. It stands next to a modern pool and during the night it can be admired illuminated by beautiful lights. It has steel posts supporting a flat cool roof, glass partition walls and the famous Barcelona chair – a piece of furniture also designed by Mies van der Rohe that has become an icon of modern design.
