Fried Calamari
Fried Calamari

The famous tapas españolas are cold or hot appetizers. They are a very traditional dish in Spanish cuisine. In Spain and of course in Barcelona you’ll find a great variety of tapas, all of them very tasty and strongly flavored with garlic, salt, cumin, pepper or olive oil. The tapas are usually served with pan con tomate or pa amb tomaquet in Catalan (bread with tomato). Some of the more common (and most delicious!) tapas españolas are: olives, meatballs, sausages, calamares (squid), patatas bravas (fried potatoes with alioli sauce and spicy sauce), cheese, ensaladilla rusa (salad with vegetables, tuna and mayonnaise), anchovies, chorizo al vino (sausage cooked in wine), croquetas (croquettes), gambas (prawns) and many more…

The pinchos (toothpicks) are other traditional Spanish appetizer mainly from the Basque Country. The Spanish pinchos are prepared with bread and different ingredients (like cheese, sausages, sea food, etc) attached to the bread with a pincho or toothpick. When paying the bill they will simply count the amount of pinchos you have on your plate. Bon apetite!
